Benefits of membership

The Manitoba Federation of Independent Schools exists to serve the Funded Independent Schools of Manitoba.  The board of directors is formed by representatives of these unique and varied schools.  Benefits for MFIS member schools include;

  1. The MFIS signed the funding agreement with the province of Manitoba on behalf of Independent Schools.  The MFIS continues to build a strong working relationship with the Government by;
    1. Meeting annually with the Finance Branch to discuss the present funding received by independent schools
    2. Meeting annually with the Minister of Education to express perspective
    3. Consulting with Manitoba Education’s Independent Schools Coordinator
  1. Providing quality professional development to our teachers and administrators;
    1. Annual in-service for new teachers
    2. Biennial conference for educator’s
    3. Biennial conference for administrator’s
    4. Workshops on current educational thrusts
  1. Supporting our schools in meeting the growing demand for accountability from the government;
  1. Communication with member schools and the general public;

  1. MFIS acts as a central office for agencies that for ease of administration prefer not to deal with many individual schools but who will work with one office.
  1. Providing representation for Independent Schools on Provincial Educational Organizations 
    1. The MFIS serves as a facilitator for the opportunity to serve as a Legislative page.
    2. The MFIS has been a partner in the Minister’s “Celebration of Excellence”  in Teaching Awards since it’s inception 
    3. The MFIS serves as a facilitator for an Independent School Representative to sit on the Selection Committee for the Minister’s “Celebration of Excellence” in Teaching Awards.  
  1. Provision of Film Licenses with two Film Licensing Companies.
  1. The MFIS manages the French Grants on behalf of independent schools to ensure that all independent schools receive their Basic French Gant monies regardless of the amount. 
    1. Processing of Principal’s Statistical Reports of French Instruction
    2. Presentations on French Grants
    3. Processing of French Grant communications, monies, and reports
  1. Opportunities to network with other Independent Schools
    1. Annual Dinner to celebrate and highlight independent Education in the province
    2. Professional development events
  1. Opportunities to speak into issues related to Independent Education
    1. The MFIS serves as a facilitator for opportunities to serve on committees related to education
    2. Each member school will have one vote at Member Meetings (AGM and Special Meetings of the Members)

Membership benefits document – film licensing, strength in numbers ???

 ”Member Schools determine the membership fee at the MFIS Annual General Meeting.  Each member school may send a delegate as well as four observers to the AGM.”
